What Are The Forging Methods Of Titanium Materials?

Forging is the application of external force to the titanium billet (excluding sheet metal) to produce plastic deformation, change size, shape and improve the performance. Forging is a method of forming mechanical parts, workpieces, tools, or blanks. In addition, according to the movement of the slider, as well as the vertical and horizontal movement of the slider points, the use of compensation devices can increase the movement of other directions.


So, according to the movement of the billet, forging can be divided into free forging, upsetting, extrusion, die forging, closed die forging, closed upsetting. Close die forging and closed upset forging have higher material utilization because of no flying edge.


According to the movement mode of forging die, forging can be divided into rotary rolling, swing forging, roll forging, cross wedge rolling, ring rolling and Skew rolling. Rotary forging, swing forging and ring rolling can also be made by precision forging. In order to improve the material utilization, roll forging and cross rolling can be used as the front working procedure of long and thin titanium materials. In order to obtain high precision products, the operator should pay attention to controlling the speed and the position of the die. Because these factors will affect the forging tolerance, shape and the life of the forging die. In addition, in order to keep the accuracy, the operator should also adjust the clearance between the slider and the rail.


Titanium material is mainly made of pure titanium and titanium alloy of various components. The original state of the material is rod, ingot, metal powder and liquid metal. Generally, the forgings with middle and small size are made of round or square bars. The grain structure and mechanical properties of the bar are uniform and good, and the shape and size are accurate, besides, the surface quality is good, so it is easy to organize mass production. As long as the heating temperature and deformation conditions are properly controlled, the forgings with good properties can be forged without large forging deformation.
